Te mapa
Hamden stretches north from the edge of New Haven in a long, narrow shape. At its southern end the streets are dense and grid-like, continuous with the city. Further north the pattern loosens into winding suburban roads, wooded lots and parkland, until the town reaches the traprock ridge of Sleeping Giant State Park, whose outline is said to resemble a reclining figure.
The Mill River runs roughly north to south through the town, with its reservoir and wooded banks forming a green band on the map. Alongside it, the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail follows the route of a nineteenth-century canal and later railway, a straight line cutting through the curving streets. Quinnipiac University occupies its own campus near the base of the ridge.
A Hamden map poster shows a town with two characters: urban at the southern edge and almost rural near the ridge. The town also has an industrial footnote. In the Whitneyville area along the Mill River, Eli Whitney set up an armory that became known for its early use of interchangeable parts.
The traprock hills in the north appear as a large wooded mass crossed by trails, a strong dark shape against the suburban streets.
The river and its reservoir run through the heart of the town, giving the map a green spine from Whitneyville toward New Haven.
The former canal and rail route runs as a straight line through Hamden, easy to follow across the map as it crosses the curving roads.

Koteā ko Hamden
Hamden means different things to different people: a first home near New Haven, student years at Quinnipiac, weekends on the Sleeping Giant trails. A map poster holds all of those in one frame and is a good gift for a move or a graduation.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps with a graduation year or an address, and choose one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand.
