Te mapa
Hikari stretches along the southern coast of Yamaguchi Prefecture, facing the calm waters of the Seto Inland Sea. On a map the city is essentially a ribbon: a narrow coastal plain where streets, rail and highway run parallel to the shore, backed almost immediately by forested hills that leave little room for the town to spread inland.
The shoreline itself changes character as you follow it. Large, regular industrial sites occupy reclaimed land along parts of the coast, their straight edges contrasting with the gentle curve of Murozumi, where a sandy beach is lined with pine trees. Small rivers come down from the hills and cut across the plain on their way to the sea.
The city was formed in the 1940s around a naval arsenal, and industry still shapes its waterfront. Yet the setting is quieter than that history suggests, and the name Hikari simply means light. A Hikari map poster captures that balance of coast, hills and orderly streets in a composition suited to a calm, uncluttered wall.

Industrial land along parts of the coast forms large rectangular blocks pushed out into the sea, adding hard geometry to an otherwise flowing shoreline.
Wooded slopes rise just inland of the coastal plain, so the street network thins quickly and the map gains a clear, natural boundary on its northern side.

Koteā ko Hikari
Hikari is a place people often know through work, family or a summer spent by the sea at Murozumi. Its map is spare and elegant, with a strong coastline doing most of the visual work, which makes it easy to hang in a hallway, study or bedroom.
