Te mapa
Kure sits on the Seto Inland Sea southeast of Hiroshima, where a deep natural harbour is enclosed by hills that rise almost directly behind the waterfront. The map shows a narrow band of flat land packed with streets and docks, while residential lanes climb the slopes in tight curves and short spurs. Beyond the bay, islands and channels break the water into a complex pattern.
The city became one of Japan's main naval ports in the late nineteenth century, and its shipyards built the battleship Yamato, launched in 1940. That history is told at the Yamato Museum by the harbour, and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force still bases ships here. Large dry docks and quays remain some of the boldest shapes on the map.
To the south, Kure's territory extends across bridges onto islands in the Inland Sea, adding coastlines, coves and small harbours to the composition. A Kure map poster works well for anyone drawn to maritime cities, balancing the rigid lines of the naval port with the loose, contour-following streets of the hills.
Quays, dry docks and piers line the bay in long straight shapes, a powerful industrial edge that anchors the whole composition.
Residential roads climb the surrounding hills in switchbacks and short spurs, creating a dense, contour-like pattern above the flat centre.
Bridges link the mainland to islands in the Seto Inland Sea, drawing slender lines across narrow straits and opening the map to the south.

Koteā ko Kure
Kure speaks to people with naval connections, readers of maritime history and admirers of the animated film In This Corner of the World, which is set here. A map of the harbour and hills makes a quiet, meaningful piece for a study or hallway.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps with a ship's name or a family date. Noir suits the dark water and steel of the docks, and Classic black and white, Paper, Blueprint and Sand are also available.
