Te mapa
Higashihiroshima lies in an inland basin east of Hiroshima city. From above it doesn't look like one dense city. It reads as several centres linked by roads and railways, with rice fields, low wooded hills and small reservoirs between them. The main urban area is around Saijō, where the train station and the older streets meet.
Saijō is one of Japan's best-known sake-brewing towns. A cluster of breweries near the station, with their brick chimneys, has made the district a destination in its own right. Since the 1980s and 1990s, Hiroshima University has moved much of its activity to a large campus here, and it has become one of the city's defining features.
A Higashihiroshima map poster shows this mix of town and country clearly: the compact brewery district, the broad planned campus with its curving roads and ponds, and the open farmland that still fills much of the basin.
Traditional sake breweries cluster near Saijō Station. The streets there are narrow and fine-grained compared with the wider modern roads around them.
Hiroshima University's large campus appears as a separate planned area, with looping roads, open grounds and ponds among the hills.
Numerous small irrigation ponds and rice paddies surround the built-up areas. They leave a scattered pattern of shapes across the basin.

Koteā ko Higashihiroshima
Students, researchers and alumni of Hiroshima University often keep a strong attachment to this basin, and so do sake enthusiasts who have walked the brewery streets. The map suits a study, an office or a first apartment.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example with a graduation year. The print is available in Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand.
