Te mapa
Onomichi lies on the Seto Inland Sea in Hiroshima Prefecture, stretched along a thin strip of flat land between steep hills and the Onomichi Channel. Across the narrow water is Mukaishima island, close enough that ferries cross in a few minutes. On a map the town is a long ribbon of streets hugging the shore, with the hills rising sharply behind it.
Temples, old houses and narrow stone paths cover the hillsides, linked by stairways rather than roads. Senkoji temple sits high above the town and can be reached by ropeway, and a walking route connects many of the temples on the slopes. From above, this part of the map breaks into a maze of small lanes that contrasts with the straight streets along the waterfront.
Onomichi is the starting point of the Shimanami Kaido, a road and cycling route that crosses a chain of islands by bridge to Imabari on Shikoku. The town has also appeared in many Japanese films and novels. An Onomichi map poster holds the essential drama of the place in a single frame: sea, shoreline and steep hills.
The slim waterway between the town and Mukaishima forms a long, narrow band of water across the map. It is one of the most distinctive features of the poster.
The steep slopes above the town are laced with paths, stairways and temple grounds. Together they create a dense, irregular texture on the upper part of the map.
Along the shore, a narrow band of streets and a railway line run parallel to the water and form the town's long, linear backbone.

Koteā ko Onomichi
Cyclists, walkers, film fans and anyone who has climbed its temple stairs remember Onomichi fondly. A map of the town recalls a place where the sea, the hills and the daily life of a small port sit unusually close together.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can be personalised with a name, a date or the day you set off on the Shimanami Kaido. There are five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Paper gives the hillside lanes a soft, sketched feel.
