Te mapa
Hongch’ŏn, often written Hongcheon, is the seat of a large county in Gangwon Province in the northeast of South Korea. The county is mostly mountainous and forested, and it is one of the largest by area in the country. The town sits in a valley where the Hongcheon River winds between the hills, and its layout follows the flat land along the water.
From above, the town appears as a compact grid of streets on the valley floor, bounded by the river on one side and by rising slopes on the other. Bridges cross the river to neighbourhoods on the opposite bank, and roads leave the town through narrow valleys towards Chuncheon, Seoul and the east coast.
A Hongch’ŏn map poster shows a place defined by its natural setting. The winding river cuts through the composition, the dense centre stands out against the empty mountain terrain, and the roads that thread through the valleys form long, curving lines. It is a quieter picture than a city map, with plenty of open space around the streets.

Koteā ko Hongch’ŏn
Hongch’ŏn is a hometown for many Koreans now living in Seoul, and a place of military service or mountain holidays for many more. A map of its river valley keeps that memory in a simple, calm form.
