Hanam lies just east of Seoul in Gyeonggi Province, with the Han River forming its northern and western edge. From above, the city is split between flat riverside land, where most new development sits, and wooded hills to the south and east. Geomdansan and the surrounding ridges leave broad green areas on the map with only a few winding roads.
One of the clearest features is the Misari Regatta, a long straight rowing course built beside the Han River for the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Around it, the Misa new town has grown into a dense district of apartment complexes and wide boulevards. The city has also become known for Starfield Hanam, a large shopping complex.
