Te mapa
Hunucmá is a town in the Mexican state of Yucatán, a short distance west of Mérida on the way toward the Gulf coast. The municipality also includes the small fishing port of Sisal, which was once the main harbour of the peninsula and gave its name to the henequen fibre exported through it.
On a map, Hunucmá follows the pattern of many Yucatecan towns: a regular grid of numbered streets spreading out from a central plaza and church, with blocks that grow looser and larger toward the edges. The land around it is almost perfectly flat, so there are no rivers or hills to disrupt the geometry, only roads running out in straight lines across the plain.
A Hunucmá map poster shows that order clearly. The grid is crisp and legible, the plaza reads as a small open square at its heart, and the outer blocks gradually dissolve into scrub and farmland. The road toward the coast gives the composition a sense of direction, pointing away toward the Gulf of Mexico.
At the centre of town, an open square framed by the church and surrounding blocks forms the natural focal point of the grid.
Straight streets cross at right angles in a regular checkerboard, a layout typical of Yucatán towns and especially clear in minimal black and white.
A long road leaves town toward Sisal on the Gulf coast, cutting a straight line across the flat, sparsely built countryside.

Koteā ko Hunucmá
Hunucmá appeals to anyone with roots in western Yucatán or memories of trips out toward Sisal and the coast. Its orderly grid also makes it a satisfying piece of graphic design in its own right.
Add a custom title and subtitle, a date or family name, and edit the coordinates line if you wish. Then choose from Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Sand suits the limestone plain.
