Te mapa
Hupari is in Kolhapur district, in the south of Maharashtra, on the fertile plain between the Western Ghats and the Deccan uplands. From above, it is a compact town with a dense, irregular centre. Narrow lanes and closely packed houses fill the core, and main roads lead out across a patchwork of sugarcane fields and farmland toward nearby towns and villages.
The town is known across India for silver work, especially silver anklets and ornaments made in family workshops. Much of the old centre is devoted to this trade. On a street map the workshops disappear into the close grain of lanes, but they explain why such a small place is so well known and why its centre is so densely built.
A Hupari map poster shows the classic shape of a working Indian town: a crowded core, a few main roads, and open agricultural land all around. In black and white, the fine lanes look almost like engraving. It is fitting for a town whose reputation rests on detailed metalwork.
The town centre is a close mesh of narrow lanes and small plots. On the map it appears as a finely textured cluster.
Much of the centre has long been given to silver ornament making. Here the street grain is at its most intricate.
Sugarcane and other crops fill the plain around the town. They give the map a calm, open border around the dense centre.

Koteā ko Hupari
The town suits families from Hupari, especially those whose work or history is tied to the silver trade. It is also a thoughtful gift for someone from the Kolhapur area who now lives far away.
