Te mapa
Isawa lies in the Kofu Basin of Yamanashi Prefecture and is now part of the city of Fuefuki. The basin floor is broad and flat, ringed by mountains, and on a map the town appears as a grid of streets surrounded by an intricate patchwork of small fields and orchards, many of them growing peaches and grapes.
Isawa is best known for Isawa Onsen, a hot-spring resort that developed after springs were found in the area in 1961. Hotels and inns gather in the resort district, and the Fuefuki River runs nearby, its course marked by a band of open ground. Isawa-Onsen Station on the Chūō Main Line carries the resort's name.
In spring, the orchards around Isawa turn pink with peach blossom, one of the best-known sights of Yamanashi. An Isawa map poster captures the calm order of the basin: straight roads, dense small fields and the soft curve of the river, with the mountains implied just beyond the frame.
Small peach and grape orchards surround the town, forming a finely divided pattern of plots that fills much of the map.
The hot-spring area forms a denser cluster of streets and larger buildings where the resort's hotels and traditional inns are gathered.
The Fuefuki River runs across the basin nearby, its channel and banks cutting a clear line through the grid of fields.
