Te mapa
Odawara lies at the western edge of Kanagawa Prefecture, where the Ashigara plain meets Sagami Bay and the hills rise toward Hakone. On a map the town has three clear edges: a smooth coastline to the south, the wide Sakawa River to the east, and steepening slopes to the west. Between them sits a dense grid of streets around the castle grounds and the station.
For much of the sixteenth century Odawara was the seat of the Later Hōjō clan, who ruled much of the Kantō region from its castle. The siege of Odawara by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1590 ended their rule and helped complete the unification of Japan. The castle keep seen today is a twentieth-century reconstruction, standing in a park at the centre of town.
An Odawara map poster brings together the moats and park of the castle, the busy streets around the station where the Shinkansen and lines to Hakone meet, and the historic Tōkaidō route running along the coast. To the west the street grid thins and bends as the land climbs, and the sea gives the composition a calm, open lower edge.
Odawara Castle and its surrounding park and moats form a large open shape near the centre, with the town's streets arranged closely around them.
The shoreline runs in a long, smooth curve along the south of the town, giving the map a clean edge where the dense street pattern meets open sea.
The broad river flows down from the mountains to the bay on the town's eastern side, a wide pale band that separates Odawara from the plain beyond.

Koteā ko Odawara
Odawara is familiar to many as the gateway to Hakone, but it has a strong identity of its own, with castle, coast and hills all in one frame. It suits people who live here, commute to Tokyo from here, or remember a stop on the way to the hot springs.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, marking a home, a wedding or a trip, and choose from five styles: Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Choose digital files or a printed poster.
