Te mapa
Itinga do Maranhão lies in the far west of Maranhão state, close to the boundary with Pará, in a landscape where the Amazon rainforest meets cleared farmland. From above the town is organised around a long main road, the Belém–Brasília highway, with streets branching off it in a loose grid that thins out quickly into pasture and scattered woodland.
This linear shape is typical of settlements that grew up along major Brazilian highways. The commercial strip follows the road, while residential blocks spread out on either side in rough rectangles. Further out, dirt roads and field boundaries cut across the land in long, straight lines, marking properties that stretch far from the urban edge.
An Itinga do Maranhão map poster captures this structure clearly: a single strong axis with a cluster of blocks around it, surrounded by a wide, open landscape. For anyone who lives here or grew up here, it is a precise and unfussy record of a town defined by the road that runs through it.
The main road runs straight through the town, forming the backbone of the poster. Shops and services line it, and most streets connect to it.
Residential blocks spread on either side of the highway in rough rectangles, a pattern that becomes sparser as it moves away from the road.
Pasture, woodland and long rural tracks surround the town, leaving wide areas of the map almost empty and emphasising the compact urban strip.
