Te mapa
Iturup is the largest of the Kuril Islands, a long, narrow landmass running northeast to southwest between the Sea of Okhotsk and the open Pacific. It is administered by Russia and claimed by Japan, which knows it as Etorofu. On a map its outline is irregular and elongated, pinched in places where bays cut in from both sides.
A chain of volcanoes runs along the island's length, and much of the terrain is mountainous and sparsely settled. Kurilsk, the main town, lies on the western coast facing the Sea of Okhotsk. Roads are few and mostly follow the lower ground, leaving large parts of the island without marked routes.
An Iturup map poster emphasises scale and emptiness. The long shoreline, with its broad bays and narrow waists, carries the design, while the handful of settlements appear as small, precise clusters along the coast. It suits people who know the Kurils first-hand, as well as anyone drawn to the far edges of the North Pacific.
A line of volcanoes runs down the centre of the island, forming the high, largely roadless core around which the coastline and settlements are arranged.
The main town sits on the Sea of Okhotsk side, where a compact set of streets meets the western shore.
One coast faces the Sea of Okhotsk and the other the Pacific, so the island appears as a long divider between two bodies of water.

Koteā ko Iturup
Iturup is rarely visited and seldom seen on a wall, which is part of its appeal. For those with family or work ties to the Kurils, or an interest in remote northern geography, it is a striking and uncommon choice.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can all be edited, and the island can be rendered in Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The long shape works especially well in the taller print sizes.
