Te mapa
Izamal is in the north of the Yucatán peninsula, on the flat limestone plain east of Mérida. Its colonial centre is painted almost entirely in golden yellow, which gives it the name the Yellow City. The street map is a regular grid of blocks, but it is broken up by very large ancient structures.
The largest is the Franciscan convent of San Antonio de Padua, built in the sixteenth century on the platform of a Maya pyramid. Its enclosed atrium is one of the largest in the Americas and forms a large, open rectangle on the map. Other pyramid mounds, including Kinich Kakmó, still sit among the city blocks.
Izamal is one of Mexico's Pueblos Mágicos and was visited by Pope John Paul II in 1993. An Izamal map poster shows how a colonial grid was laid over a Maya city, with both still visible.
The vast enclosed atrium of San Antonio de Padua sits on a raised Maya platform. It forms a large, clear rectangle at the centre of the map.
Ancient structures such as Kinich Kakmó take up whole blocks within the town. They interrupt the grid with large, solid shapes.
Regular streets extend outward from the centre across the flat plain. They show the Spanish plan built around the older city.

Koteā ko Izamal
Izamal leaves a strong impression on visitors, from the yellow arcades to the view from the top of a pyramid. A map poster is a quieter souvenir than a postcard, and it shows the town's unusual layout in full.
Add a title and subtitle, perhaps the date of your trip, and a coordinates line. Sand and Paper echo the warm stone and yellow walls, and Classic and Blueprint keep the grid crisp. Download HD files for $9 or order a print.
