Jianlong is a town in the western part of Chongqing municipality, a region of low hills, small valleys and densely cultivated land. On a map, settlements here rarely follow a grid. Streets bend to fit the terrain, and the built-up area gathers wherever the ground is flat enough to allow it.
The town serves as a local centre for the surrounding countryside, where villages and fields are spread across the hills. Its streets form a compact knot, and roads link it to neighbouring towns and to the larger urban districts of Chongqing further east.
A Jianlong map poster shows that irregular, terrain-driven layout: a dense core, streets curving around slopes, and thin roads twisting away through the countryside. The result is organic rather than planned, and very different from the geometric plans of lowland cities.
