Jiazi is a coastal town in Lufeng, in the Shanwei area of eastern Guangdong. From above, the town sits beside the sea, with the shoreline and the harbour defining one side of the map. Streets are packed closely together near the water and loosen further inland, where roads lead out toward villages, fields and the low hills behind the coast.
Fishing has long shaped life in Jiazi, and the harbour remains central to the town's economy and identity. Like many towns along this coast, it has strong ties to overseas communities, and many families count relatives in Hong Kong, Southeast Asia and beyond.
