Te mapa
Julau is a small town in Sarawak, on the island of Borneo, and the administrative centre of a district in Sarikei Division. It lies within the basin of the Rajang, Sarawak's great river, whose tributaries were once the main routes between settlements. On a map the town is a compact cluster of streets beside the water, with roads leaving it for the surrounding hills.
The district is predominantly Iban, and much of its population lives in longhouses scattered along rivers and roads outside the town. From above, these appear as small linear settlements whose shape reflects the long communal building. Between them the land mixes forest, rubber and pepper gardens and newer plantations, cut by winding streams.
A Julau map poster gives an unusual view of a Borneo river town, drawn with the same care as any capital. The composition is sparse, organised around water and a handful of roads. That makes it a quiet, balanced piece for anyone who grew up here and now lives in Sibu, Kuching or further afield.
The town's streets gather along the river, a reminder that water was the original highway through this part of Sarawak before roads reached the interior.
Iban longhouses outside town appear as short, linear clusters along rivers and roads. This settlement form is rarely seen on maps from other parts of the world.
Many small tributaries curve through the forest and farmland around Julau. They add fine meandering lines between the hills that soften the poster's composition.

Family ties in Sarawak often run back to a particular longhouse or river town. A poster of Julau keeps that origin in view, whether it hangs in a home in Sibu, Kuching, Kuala Lumpur or abroad.
Set the title and subtitle to a family or longhouse name, add a date and adjust the coordinates. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. The HD files cost $9, and printed posters ship from partners in more than 30 countries.
