Te mapa
Kai Tak was Hong Kong's international airport until 1998. From above, its most obvious feature is still the old runway, a long, straight strip of land projecting into Victoria Harbour from the Kowloon shore. For decades, planes turned low over the rooftops of Kowloon City before landing, an approach that became famous among pilots and travellers around the world.
Since the airport closed, the site has been redeveloped into a new district. The Kai Tak Cruise Terminal sits at the tip of the runway, and Kai Tak Sports Park, with its large stadium, occupies part of the former apron. New residential blocks and parks are being laid out on the land between them, all in a regular grid.
A Kai Tak map poster shows a district made almost entirely of straight lines. On one side is the runway pointing into open water, and on the other are the dense, old streets of Kowloon City and San Po Kong. It is an unusual portrait of Hong Kong, focused on infrastructure and history rather than the famous skyline.
The long strip of land into the harbour remains the defining shape of Kai Tak. It is instantly recognisable to anyone who remembers the old airport.
At the far end of the runway, the terminal occupies the point where planes once took off. Around it, open harbour water appears on three sides.
The dense streets of Kowloon City border the new district. Their tight, irregular grid contrasts sharply with the spacious modern layout of Kai Tak.

Koteā ko Kai Tak
Aviation enthusiasts, former airport staff and anyone who remembers landing at Kai Tak keep a special affection for this place. The map shows both what remains of the airport and what has replaced it.
You can add a title such as the old airport code, a subtitle like 1925–1998, and coordinates. Choose Noir, Blueprint or any of the five styles. It is available as a $9 HD download or a printed poster.
