Te mapa
Kallidaikurichi lies in Tirunelveli district in the far south of Tamil Nadu, on the banks of the Tamirabarani river. The Western Ghats rise not far to the west. From above, the town is shaped by its river and its streets, and irrigated paddy fields and coconut groves press in on every side.
The town is known for its agraharams, the traditional streets of houses that stand in long, parallel rows, often leading toward a temple. This gives the core of Kallidaikurichi an unusually regular pattern for an old South Indian town, made of long straight lanes with houses packed tightly along both sides.
A Kallidaikurichi map poster shows those long streets together with the curve of the Tamirabarani and the green irrigated land along it. At the western edge of the wider view, the foothills of the Ghats begin to rise and close the scene.
The old residential streets run in long, parallel rows of houses. On the poster they create a distinctive striped pattern at the historic heart of the town.
The Tamirabarani flows past the town, and irrigated fields fed by its water follow its course. Its curve gives the map a strong natural boundary.
The Western Ghats rise to the west. In wider framings the flat farmland gives way to hills, and the road network thins out and stops.
