Te mapa
Kamo lies in central Niigata Prefecture, where the Kamo River leaves the hills and flows out onto the broad Echigo Plain. The town follows the river closely: streets run in long lines parallel to the water, with the densest blocks on the valley floor and forested slopes rising steeply to the east. To the west, the map opens into rice paddies.
Kamo is often called the Little Kyoto of Hokuetsu, a name that reflects its riverside setting, its old shrine and the gentle scale of its historic streets. It is also known for Kamo kiri-tansu, traditional chests of drawers made from paulownia wood, a craft practised here for generations and closely tied to the town's identity.
A Kamo map poster shows a town shaped by topography in a way that is easy to read: the river as a spine, the settled valley floor and the empty hills above. The contrast between the tight urban strip and the wide plain beyond gives the composition a pleasing sense of direction, flowing from the mountains toward the sea.
The river runs through the length of the town, and most major streets follow it closely, so the entire street network seems to flow along a single axis.
Forested slopes rise directly behind the eastern neighbourhoods, leaving the map almost blank there and sharpening the edge of the built-up area.
Toward the west, streets thin out into a regular pattern of fields and farm roads, the characteristic geometry of the Echigo Plain.

Koteā ko Kamo
Kamo suits anyone with family in Niigata, or who remembers the river and the hills from a visit. It is a modest town on a map, but the shape is distinctive, and it looks calm and considered on a wall.
Title, subtitle and coordinates can all be changed, so you can add a name, a year or a family address. Choose from five styles, Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand, to fit a tatami room or a minimal modern interior.
