Te mapa
Kanasín lies directly east of Mérida on the flat limestone plain of northern Yucatán. There are no rivers here: water runs underground, and the land is almost perfectly level. From above, Kanasín has an old town centre with a traditional grid around its church and plaza, surrounded by large new housing developments built in regular blocks.
Over recent decades the town has become part of the Mérida metropolitan area. Much of its growth has come from new subdivisions filling the space between the old town and Mérida's ring road, the Periférico. The line where the old grid meets these newer developments is easy to see on the map.
A Kanasín map poster shows a community in transition, from a Yucatecan pueblo to a metropolitan suburb. The dense old centre, the repeating patterns of new neighbourhoods and the ring road on the western edge give the print a clear, graphic structure.

Large residential developments fill the land around the old town. Their repeated blocks and cul-de-sacs create a distinctive texture.
Mérida's ring road runs along the western side. It marks the boundary where Kanasín and the state capital meet.
