Kannānendal lies on the northern outskirts of Madurai in Tamil Nadu, in the flat plain of the Vaigai basin. On a map, it forms part of the city's expanding fringe. Newer residential streets are laid out in blocks, with older lanes following village paths, and open land and farmland lie in between.
