Te mapa
Kanuma sits in western Tochigi, where the flat Kanto plain begins to fold into the mountains toward Nikko. From above, the town reads as a modest cluster of streets along a river valley. Rail lines and main roads run roughly north to south, and farmland fills the gaps between neighbourhoods before the land climbs into wooded ridges.
The Kurokawa River gives the map its main natural line, running down through the settled area. The older commercial streets gather near the centre, while newer residential blocks spread outward in looser, irregular patterns. On a Kanuma map poster these layers show clearly: a dense core, softer edges, and the steady pull of the hills on the western side of the frame.
Kanuma is known in gardening circles for kanuma soil, a light volcanic pumice used widely for bonsai and satsuki azaleas, which grow well here. The town is also known for the Kanuma Autumn Festival, where carved floats move through the streets. The festival is part of a group of Japanese float festivals recognised by UNESCO.
The river runs through the valley from north to south and ties the town together. On the poster it forms a thin line running through the street pattern.
Forested ridges rise on the western side of town toward the Nikko mountains. In print, this is where the street lines stop and the paper opens up.
The central streets where the autumn floats are paraded form the densest part of the map, a tight grid of short blocks near the old commercial core.

Koteā ko Kanuma
For people who grow bonsai or azaleas, Kanuma is a name they know from soil bags and nursery catalogues. For people from here, it is where the floats come out each autumn. Either way, the map is a quiet reminder of the place.
You can add your own title, a subtitle such as a family name or a date, and a coordinates line. Choose from five styles, Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, to match the room.
