Te mapa
Katsuyama occupies a basin in eastern Fukui Prefecture, where the Kuzuryū River flows out of the mountains toward the Sea of Japan. Steep, forested slopes surround the town on nearly every side. On the map the built-up area fills the flat valley floor, and its streets and rice fields give way abruptly to empty mountain terrain.
The city is best known across Japan for the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum, set on a hillside outside the centre, because the surrounding area is one of the country's richest sources of dinosaur fossils. Katsuyama is also home to Heisenji Hakusan Shrine, a moss-covered site that was once the centre of a powerful temple complex linked to the worship of Mount Hakusan.
A Katsuyama map poster sets the tidy grid of a small Japanese town against the wild terrain around it. The river crosses the valley on a diagonal, and the Echizen Railway line ends here after its run from Fukui. The edges of the sheet fill with the quiet emptiness of the mountains.
The river crosses the basin in a wide channel, with the town set along its banks. Its course is the strongest natural line on the map and orients the whole composition.
Streets, houses and rectangular rice paddies fill the flat land of the basin in a fairly regular pattern that stops sharply where the forested slopes begin.
The Echizen Railway Katsuyama Eiheiji Line runs up the valley from Fukui and ends in Katsuyama. It is a thin line that traces the valley route into the mountains.

Koteā ko Katsuyama
Katsuyama draws dinosaur enthusiasts, hikers and people with family ties to the Fukui mountains. A map of the basin is a calm, graphic reminder of a place where town and mountain meet so clearly.
Set a title in your own words, add a subtitle such as the year of a visit, and keep or edit the coordinates. All five styles, Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand, suit the strong valley shape. The $9 HD download includes six print sizes.
