Te mapa
Kop’ung is a town in Chagang Province, in the far north of North Korea. It is among the most mountainous parts of the Korean peninsula. Steep, forested ridges cover much of the province, and settlements occupy the valley floors where rivers have cut through.
Detailed public information about Kop’ung is limited, and this page does not claim more than a map can show. From above, towns in this region follow the valleys. Streets and buildings run in a narrow band along the water, roads follow the river's course, and the surrounding hills are almost empty of lines.
A Kop’ung map poster is therefore more about the landscape than about individual streets. The drawing shows a thin human line laid along a valley, surrounded by the blank space of mountains. For those with a personal link to the area, it is a sparse and quietly striking image.
Like most towns in Chagang Province, Kop’ung is concentrated along a valley floor. The built-up area follows the river instead of spreading in all directions.
Roads in this terrain run beside rivers, so the main routes and the watercourse run close together through the town and give the map its main direction.
Steep, forested ridges surround the valley. On the poster they appear as wide open space, leaving the settlement as a slender band through the middle.
