Te mapa
Kota Sambas is the main town of Sambas Regency in West Kalimantan, on the island of Borneo. From above, it is a town of rivers: waterways wind through and around it, and the streets follow their banks across low, flat land, with palms, rice fields and wetland stretching out beyond the settled area.
Sambas was the seat of a Malay sultanate, and the old sultan's palace still stands near the meeting point of the town's rivers, a reminder of the period when the waterways were the main routes of trade and travel. Houses along the banks, some raised on stilts, continue that relationship with the water.
A Kota Sambas map poster captures this river-based layout, with curving waterways and the streets that follow them. It is a gentle, organic composition, and a fitting print for anyone with roots in Sambas or the wider Malay culture of Borneo.
Rivers meet at the town, and their curving courses give the map its main shape, with streets and settlements arranged along the banks.
The palace of the former Sambas sultanate stands near the rivers' meeting point, marking the historic centre of the town.
Flat wetlands, fields and plantations surround the town, leaving the rivers and a few roads as the main lines on the outer map.
