Te mapa
Lake Forest sits on Chicago's North Shore, along the western edge of Lake Michigan. When the town was planned in the 1850s, its streets were deliberately laid out in curves that follow the natural ravines running down to the lake, rather than on the grid used across most of the Midwest. From above, the result is a soft, winding street pattern unlike that of its neighbours.
At the town's centre, Market Square, designed by Howard Van Doren Shaw and completed in 1916, is often cited as one of the first planned shopping centres in the United States. Nearby are the Metra station and the campus of Lake Forest College. East of the centre, large wooded lots and ravines give way to the lakefront, while west of the rail line the pattern becomes more open.
A Lake Forest map poster makes the contrast between planning styles easy to see. The curving roads and ravines in the east, the more regular streets further west and the long shoreline combine into a composition with both movement and structure. In black and white, the lake edge reads as a clean, calm border.

Designed by Howard Van Doren Shaw and completed in 1916, the square near the train station forms a compact, formal space at the heart of town.
The town ends at a bluff above the lake, and on the poster the shoreline draws a long, clean edge along the eastern side of the map.

Koteā ko Lake Forest
Lake Forest inspires strong attachments, among families who have lived there for decades, Lake Forest College alumni and anyone who grew up walking its ravine paths. The map suits a study or a hallway, or makes a graduation gift.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example with a class year or a street address. Pick one of five styles, such as Paper or Noir, and choose between $9 HD files and a matte printed poster with an optional wooden frame.
