Te mapa
Lei Tung is on Ap Lei Chau, a small island in Hong Kong's Southern District, just across a narrow channel from Aberdeen. The name refers mainly to the public housing estate built on the island's slope. On the map, the area shows tall residential blocks set on terraces, with curving roads climbing the hillside and the sea on several sides.
Ap Lei Chau is often described as one of the most densely populated islands in the world. Since 2016 it has been served by the MTR South Island line, with Lei Tung station beneath the estate. The Ap Lei Chau Bridge links the island to Aberdeen and the rest of Hong Kong Island.
A Lei Tung map poster brings together water, bridge and slope in a small frame. The Aberdeen channel, crowded with boats in real life, separates the island from the harbour town opposite, and the coastline shapes the whole composition. The dense blocks on terraced land make a striking contrast with the open water around them.
The bridge crosses the narrow channel to Aberdeen, a short straight line on the map that ties the island to the rest of Hong Kong.
The housing blocks stand on levelled terraces cut into the hillside, with roads looping up between them in tight, curving turns.
The sheltered water between Ap Lei Chau and Aberdeen forms a narrow band on the map, long known as a harbour for fishing boats.
