Te mapa
Lhünzhub is the seat of a county in the Lhasa area of Tibet, north-east of the regional capital. It lies in a wide valley well above 3,500 metres. On a map, the town is a compact cluster on the valley floor, surrounded by open land that rises steadily into mountains on every side. A river and its channels run through the valley and give the drawing its main curve.
The town has a small street network: a handful of main roads and a denser block of buildings where they meet. The simplicity is part of the appeal. Few city maps are this bare, and here most of the character comes from space. Farmland and grazing ground stretch out along the valley before the terrain steepens.
The wider county reaches north into more remote country and includes Reting Monastery, an old centre of Tibetan Buddhism. A Lhünzhub map poster centres on the town but keeps the valley around it, so the empty land weighs as much as the streets. The result is sparse and quiet, a map about altitude and distance as much as buildings.
The town sits on a broad, level valley floor at high altitude. On the map this reads as a pale, open field with the settlement as a small, dense centre.
Water runs through the valley in shifting channels. They add the only soft, curving lines to a composition otherwise made of straight roads and open space.
A main road leads south-west toward Lhasa and threads between the mountain slopes. It is the longest line on the map and links this small town to the regional capital.

This poster is for people who have travelled across the Tibetan plateau or have family ties to the Lhasa region. With so few lines, the design is spare and meditative, a portrait of a small town in a very large landscape.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can be changed to record a journey or a date. Choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Noir and Sand are especially good at showing the open valley.
