Te mapa
Manggar is the main town of East Belitung, on the eastern coast of the island of Belitung, off the southeast coast of Sumatra. The town sits near the sea, close to a river mouth, and its streets spread across flat, sandy ground. From above, the coastline and the river frame the town, while inland the landscape is scattered with water-filled pits left from decades of tin mining.
Tin shaped Belitung's economy for a long time, and the mining pits, some large, some small, give the surrounding land an unusual pattern of pale lakes and patches of scrub. The town itself is a loose network of main roads and residential streets, and it is known locally for its many traditional coffee houses, a big part of daily life.
A Manggar map poster presents a coastal town among traces of its industrial past. The shoreline and river give the composition a natural edge, and the mining ponds scattered inland add an irregular texture. It is a distinctive map, suited to anyone with ties to Belitung or interest in its island landscape.
