Te mapa
Matsubushi is a town in the eastern part of Saitama Prefecture, on the flat lowlands north of Tokyo. On a map, the land is almost entirely level, and water shapes the layout. Rivers and straight drainage channels run across the plain, and rice paddies make up large regular blocks between the residential areas.
The town sits between larger cities in the Tokyo commuter belt. Its housing areas have grown along roads and close to railway access, next to land that is still farmed. A Matsubushi map poster shows that mix: tight clusters of residential streets surrounded by the wide, flat geometry of paddy fields and channels.
In black and white, the rice fields become open rectangles and the waterways become clear dividing lines. The result is calm and orderly, a view of the quieter, agricultural side of the Kantō plain close to one of the world's largest cities.
Natural rivers and straight drainage canals cross the town. They are essential on such low ground, and they give the map its strongest long lines.
Rice fields form rectangular blocks between the built-up areas. From above they add a regular, tile-like pattern around the town.
Housing is concentrated in dense pockets of narrow streets. These stand out clearly against the open farmland of the surrounding plain.
