Te mapa
Maywood is a village in Cook County, Illinois, a short distance west of Chicago. Like much of the region it follows a strict grid. North–south avenues are numbered in sequence, and long east–west streets cross them at right angles. On a map this produces an even, dense pattern of rectangular blocks.
The eastern edge is formed by the Des Plaines River, whose wooded banks and forest preserves make a green, winding border against the regular street plan. A commuter rail line crosses the village, with a station for trains into Chicago. Several main roads connect Maywood to the neighbouring suburbs.
Maywood is home to Loyola University Medical Center, a large academic hospital campus that shows on the map as a broad complex of buildings and car parks. The village is also remembered as the home town of Fred Hampton. A Maywood map poster places these landmarks within the grid that holds the community together.
North–south avenues run across the village in numerical order. They form a regular, easy-to-read grid that gives the poster a strong vertical rhythm.
The river and its forest preserves form the eastern boundary, a curving green band that softens the edge of an otherwise rigidly rectangular street plan.
Loyola University Medical Center takes up a large site in the village. It stands out as a distinct block of wide buildings and access roads within the residential grid.

Koteā ko Maywood
Maywood maps go to families with long roots in the village, to staff and former students of the medical centre, and to anyone who grew up on its avenues. The grid makes for a calm, balanced composition.
