Te mapa
Methukummal lies in Kanniyakumari district, at the southern tip of Tamil Nadu and close to the border with Kerala. This part of India is among the most densely settled rural landscapes in the country, and from above the town merges into neighbouring villages, with houses scattered under tree cover rather than gathered into a single tight centre.
Between the Western Ghats to the north and the Arabian Sea to the west, the land here is green and rolling, with coconut and rubber plantations, paddy fields and small water tanks. Roads wind to follow the terrain, and narrow lanes branch off them toward homes and fields. The result is an intricate, branching street pattern with very few straight lines.
A Methukummal map poster turns that organic layout into a delicate line drawing. Without the greenery, the lanes and paths reveal how closely the settlement is woven into its landscape, each road curving around a slope or a plot boundary. It is a detailed, quiet map for anyone with ties to this corner of the south.
Narrow roads and lanes curve between homesteads and plantations, forming a branching network that grew gradually with the settlement rather than following a planned grid.
Small water tanks and paddy fields sit in the lower ground between clusters of houses, appearing on the map as open spaces within the otherwise continuous web of streets.
Methukummal lies in the western part of Kanniyakumari district, where Tamil Nadu meets Kerala and the settlement pattern flows almost unbroken across the state line.

Koteā ko Methukummal
Families from Kanniyakumari district often live and work far from home, in Chennai, Kerala, the Gulf or beyond. A map of Methukummal keeps the lanes of home on the wall, recognisable to anyone who has walked them.
