Te mapa
This Mianyang lies in southern Shaanxi, in the upper Han River valley, which runs between the Qinling mountains to the north and the Daba mountains to the south. It is a different place from the large city of Mianyang in Sichuan. On a map, the town follows the flat land by the river, and its streets are laid out in the space between water and rising ground.
The Han valley has long been a corridor between northern and southwestern China. Roads, and later railways, follow the valley floor because the mountains on either side leave few other routes. The town's growth reflects that. Its built-up area stretches along the valley rather than spreading evenly, and farmland fills the remaining level land by the river.
A Mianyang map poster shows how a town fits into a narrow river landscape. The river gives the composition a strong line, and the streets gather along it. The main roads run parallel to the valley. It is a quiet, readable plan for anyone connected to this part of Shaanxi.
The Han River runs through the valley and gives the map its main axis, with the town's streets arranged along its banks.
Mountains rise on both sides, so the built-up area stretches along the valley floor instead of spreading out in a round, even shape.
Roads and railway follow the valley, the easiest path through steep country, and run in long lines parallel to the river.

Koteā ko Mianyang
For people who grew up in southern Shaanxi or have family in the Hanzhong area, this poster marks a place that is often confused with its larger Sichuan namesake. The river and valley form a calm, natural composition.
