Te mapa
Mong Kok, in the Yau Tsim Mong district of Kowloon, is often described as one of the most densely populated places in the world. The map shows a tight grid of short blocks. Nathan Road cuts straight through from north to south, and narrower parallel streets run on either side.
Many of these streets are known for particular trades. Tung Choi Street has the Ladies' Market, Fa Yuen Street is known for sneaker shops, and near Prince Edward there is the flower market and the bird garden. Railway lines and stations define the edges, and the dense fabric of the district fills everything between them.
A Mong Kok map poster is all about density and rhythm. Almost every part of the frame is filled with lines, which gives the print an intense, woven look. The strong central axis of Nathan Road keeps it ordered, and the small side streets make it rewarding to look at closely.
Kowloon's main avenue runs straight through the district. It is the strongest line on the map, and the smaller grid is organised on either side of it.
Parallel streets such as Tung Choi Street and Fa Yuen Street run close together. Each is known for its own market or type of shop.
On the northern edge near Prince Edward, the flower market streets and bird garden add a more varied pattern to the regular grid.
