Te mapa
Muskegon lies on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan, but its heart faces a smaller body of water: Muskegon Lake, formed where the Muskegon River widens before it reaches the big lake. A straight channel between breakwaters links the two. The city's streets spread along the south shore of the inner lake, and dunes and beaches line the Lake Michigan coast to the west.
In the late nineteenth century Muskegon was one of the great lumber towns of the Midwest, sometimes called the Lumber Queen of the World. Sawmills once lined the lakeshore, and the fortunes they made can still be seen in the Victorian houses of the lumber barons Charles Hackley and Thomas Hume. Today the waterfront is home to marinas, parks and a museum submarine.
A Muskegon map poster is shaped by water on almost every side. The river delta spreads in fine, branching lines to the east, the inner lake fills the centre, and Lake Michigan runs along the western edge as a clean field of white or black. Between them, the downtown grid and the long beach at Pere Marquette Park give the design its human scale.
The broad inner lake dominates the centre of the map. On the city side its shoreline is traced by piers, marinas and docks, and the north shore is quieter.
A narrow, straight channel runs between breakwaters from Muskegon Lake to Lake Michigan. This single line ties the city to open water and to the ferry route across to Wisconsin.
To the east, the Muskegon River splits into a maze of channels and wetlands before it enters the lake. The pattern is delicate and looks especially fine at larger print sizes.

Koteā ko Muskegon
Muskegon is loved by people who spent summers on its beaches, grew up near the lake or sailed out through the channel. With this much water in the frame, the map makes a calm, graphic piece for a cottage, a lake house or a city apartment far from the shore.
You can change the title, subtitle and coordinates line to name a family cottage or mark a summer date. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand; Blueprint suits the lake especially well. Download six print sizes for $9, or order a printed poster.
