Te mapa
Mvurwi sits in Mashonaland Central in northern Zimbabwe, a small town of roughly fifteen thousand people surrounded by agricultural land. From above, the built-up area is modest and tightly drawn: a cluster of streets near the centre, residential blocks spreading a little further out, and then the long, straight lines of roads heading into the countryside. The edge between town and farmland is easy to read on the map.
The town was known as Umvukwes before Zimbabwe renamed many settlements after independence, and it grew as a service centre for the commercial farms of the district, with tobacco long among the main crops. That history shows in the plan. Rather than winding lanes or a dense old core, the map describes a practical layout built around roads, a trading centre and the land that supports them.
A Mvurwi map poster keeps all of this in fine black line work. The small street network reads as a single compact shape, and the roads leaving it give the composition direction, pointing toward the farms and neighbouring towns beyond the frame. It is a quiet, uncluttered map, which suits a place whose character comes from its setting as much as from its streets.
The core of Mvurwi is small enough to take in at a glance, a short run of streets and blocks that forms the densest part of the map.
Straight rural roads leave the town in several directions, drawing long clean lines across the poster and linking Mvurwi to the agricultural district around it.
Beyond the last residential streets the map opens out, and the contrast between built-up blocks and empty ground gives the design its calm, spacious balance.
