Nandajie lies in the western part of Chongqing Municipality, in the hilly land between the Yangtze and the Sichuan Basin's central plains. Its name means South Main Street, a common name for a town centre in this region. From above, the town sits among low hills, and the street pattern bends with the terrain rather than forming a strict grid.
The surrounding countryside is a patchwork of terraced fields, small reservoirs and villages linked by winding roads.
