Naugatuck is a borough in New Haven County, Connecticut, set in the valley of the Naugatuck River. From above, the town follows the river north to south, with the central streets on the flat land by the water and residential roads climbing the wooded hills to the east and west. Route 8 runs through the valley alongside the river.
The borough grew as an industrial town and became a centre of the American rubber industry in the nineteenth century, connected to Charles Goodyear and the companies that followed. Its town green is framed by a notable group of civic buildings designed by the architects McKim, Mead and White.
