Te mapa
Navolato lies a short distance west of Culiacán, in the low, fertile valley that runs toward the Gulf of California coast. On the map, the town is a fairly regular grid of blocks, clearly planned, with a main road leading east toward the state capital and smaller roads branching out into the countryside.
Agriculture shapes this landscape. Irrigation canals and field boundaries cut the surrounding land into long rectangles, and the town is known in Sinaloa for its sugar cane history and its intensive farming. In black and white, these fields make a strong geometric frame, their straight lines echoing the grid of the town centre.
A Navolato map poster shows how closely the town is tied to the land around it. There is no dramatic coastline or mountain in view, only the steady order of blocks, canals and farm roads, which works well as a minimalist composition and means something specific to anyone from the valley.
The centre follows a regular pattern of square blocks, the layout common to many Mexican towns, with the main square and church area near the middle.
Canals and drainage channels run through the surrounding farmland in long straight lines, one of the defining marks of Sinaloa's agricultural valleys.
A main road links Navolato east to Culiacán, and on a wider frame the two places begin to draw toward each other across the valley.

Many people from Navolato now live in Culiacán, in other parts of Mexico or in the United States, and a map of the home streets is a quiet reminder of where they come from. It also makes a thoughtful gift for parents or grandparents who stayed.
