Te mapa
Newburgh sits on the west bank of the Hudson River in New York, about sixty miles north of Manhattan. The city rises from the water on a hillside, and its street grid runs up the slope from the river. On a map the shoreline forms a strong edge, with Beacon and the mountains facing it across the water.
Newburgh played a notable role in the Revolutionary War. George Washington made his headquarters here in the Hasbrouck House, overlooking the river, in the final years of the conflict. The city also has Downing Park, designed by Olmsted and Vaux, and a large stock of nineteenth-century brick and stone buildings.
A Newburgh map poster shows the grid, the waterfront and the long span of the Newburgh–Beacon Bridge crossing the Hudson at the northern edge of the city. In black and white, the river and the regular streets balance each other well. It is a fine print for Hudson Valley homes.
The river forms the eastern edge of the city. The shoreline, piers and wide stretch of water give the map a strong, clean boundary.
Twin spans carry Interstate 84 across the Hudson just north of the city, a bold diagonal line joining the two banks.
The Hasbrouck House, where Washington was based in 1782 and 1783, stands on a bluff above the river as a state historic site.
