Te mapa
Nicoya is the main town of the Nicoya Peninsula in Guanacaste. Unlike the beach towns on the coast, it sits inland on a plain ringed by low hills. Its map is centred and orderly. A grid of blocks surrounds a central park, and roads leave the town toward the Pacific coast and the rest of the peninsula.
At the heart of the grid stands the colonial church of San Blas, among the oldest churches in Costa Rica, facing the town's main park. The blocks around it are regular and fairly small. Toward the edges the grid loosens into less regular streets, and then into pasture and dry forest. The name comes from the Chorotega chief who ruled this area when the Spanish arrived.
The peninsula has become widely known as one of the world's Blue Zones, regions studied for the unusual longevity of their residents. A Nicoya map poster captures the modest, steady town at the centre of that story. The square gives the composition a natural focal point, and the orderly grid spreads out from it on all sides.
The main park and the colonial church of San Blas sit in the middle of the grid. On the map they form a clear open block that anchors the whole composition.
Straight streets cross at right angles in the old core, following the Spanish planning tradition. The regular pattern gives the print a calm, balanced rhythm.
Main roads leave the town toward the Pacific beaches and the peninsula's other towns. Where they cross the surrounding countryside, their lines stand out sharply.

Koteā ko Nicoya
Travellers who have spent time on the Nicoya Peninsula often remember the town as the place where they met everyday Costa Rican life away from the beaches. For families from Guanacaste, it is simply home. Either way, the map is a restrained reminder of the place.
Set the title, subtitle and coordinates line yourself, for example with a trip date or a family name. Then pick one of five styles. Sand and Paper suit the warm, dry landscape, and Noir makes the grid look especially striking.
