North Liberty lies in Johnson County, Iowa, between Iowa City and Cedar Rapids, along the corridor of Interstate 380. It was a small town for most of its history and grew rapidly in recent decades as a suburb for people working in both cities and at the University of Iowa.
The map reflects that growth. A small original centre is surrounded by newer residential developments: curving streets, loops and cul-de-sacs placed within the square mile grid of Midwestern country roads. To the north the landscape changes around Coralville Lake, the reservoir on the Iowa River, with its wooded shores and recreation areas.
