Te mapa
Peoria sits on the west bank of the Illinois River in central Illinois, where the river widens into a long, lake-like stretch called Peoria Lake. The map is built on a contrast. A downtown grid occupies the flat land by the water, while the rest of the city rises onto the bluffs. Up there, streets curve along the edges of ravines before settling into the regular grid of the prairie.
Several bridges cross the river to East Peoria on the far bank, among them the Murray Baker Bridge, which carries Interstate 74. Grandview Drive follows the edge of the bluffs, with long views over the valley. For decades Peoria was the headquarters of Caterpillar, and the riverfront layout still shows the city's industrial and commercial history.
Peoria is also known through a phrase: will it play in Peoria, once used to ask whether an idea would appeal to mainstream America. A Peoria map poster shows the city as it really is. The river, the bluffs, Bradley University and the older neighbourhoods all appear clearly in relation to one another.

Bridges including the Murray Baker Bridge cross to East Peoria. Their bold lines over the water link the two sides of the valley on the map.
Above the river, streets curve around ravines and along the edge of the bluffs. Grandview Drive traces the high ground before the grid resumes further inland.
