Te mapa
Olympic is the area around Olympic station in Hong Kong's Yau Tsim Mong District, on the western side of the Kowloon peninsula near Tai Kok Tsui. Much of it stands on land reclaimed from the harbour in the late twentieth century. On a map the difference from older Kowloon is easy to see: large blocks, broad roads and towers set well apart, rather than the tight grid of the traditional tenement streets.
The station, on the Tung Chung line, anchors the district, and the Olympian City shopping complexes and residential estates cluster around it. Elevated roads and expressways run along the western edge, separating the new development from the waterfront. To the east, the older streets of Tai Kok Tsui and Mong Kok begin, with their much finer grain.
An Olympic map poster shows two eras of Hong Kong meeting along a single line: reclamation-era planning on one side, dense older Kowloon on the other, with the harbour just beyond. It is a detailed urban composition for anyone who has lived, worked or commuted here.
The district sits on reclaimed harbour land, and that shows in its large, regular blocks and wide roads.
Olympic station and the shopping and residential complexes around it form the centre of the area, linked by footbridges and podiums.
To the east, the fine, dense street grid of Tai Kok Tsui and Mong Kok contrasts sharply with the newer, larger layout.

Koteā ko Olympic
A map of Olympic suits Hong Kongers who grew up in West Kowloon or who moved away and miss the view from the estate. The contrast between old and new street patterns makes a strong graphic poster.
