Te mapa
Oral, also known as Uralsk, lies on the right bank of the Ural River where it is joined by the Shagan. On the map, the two rivers meet at the edge of the old town, their loops and oxbows winding through a green floodplain. The Ural is often treated as a boundary between Europe and Asia, and most of the city lies on its western side.
The city's centre is laid out in a regular grid of long, straight streets running roughly north-south and east-west, a pattern typical of planned towns on the steppe. Newer districts extend outward from the centre, while the floodplain between the rivers stays largely open. Beyond the city, the landscape is flat and sparsely built, with roads heading off toward Russia and the rest of Kazakhstan.
An Oral map poster shows the clear geometry of the grid against the soft curves of two rivers. Founded in the early seventeenth century as a Yaik Cossack settlement, the city is linked with Emelyan Pugachev's eighteenth-century uprising, and Alexander Pushkin visited in 1833 while researching it. The old centre still carries traces of that past.

Long, straight streets run through the centre in a regular pattern, one of the clearest planned grids in western Kazakhstan.
Between the rivers, open ground and wooded meadows leave a broad, unbuilt space that gives the map a soft, natural edge.
