Te mapa
Oriximiná lies in western Pará, on the banks of the Trombetas River not far from where it joins the Amazon. From above, the town is a narrow band of streets along the waterfront, with the river spread wide in front of it and the forest closing in behind. Water dominates the frame far more than streets do.
The urban plan is a modest grid that runs parallel to the bank, with the older streets nearest the port. An Oriximiná map poster turns the Trombetas into a broad, clean shape and lets the fine line of the town hold the edge, a composition that reads almost like a coastal map.
The municipality is one of the largest in Brazil by area, covering vast stretches of forest and river to the north. Bauxite mining at Porto Trombetas, upriver, is a major part of the regional economy, and much of the area's life still moves by boat.
The town faces a wide reach of the Trombetas, and the riverbank forms the strongest line on the map, with streets arranged to follow it.
A compact rectangular grid runs back from the port, short and orderly, before thinning out where the forest and floodable land begin.
Around the town, side channels and floodplain lakes appear as irregular shapes of water, typical of the lower Amazon basin landscape.
