Te mapa
Paiján lies on the northern coast of Peru in La Libertad, north of Trujillo. The Pan-American Highway passes the town, and its streets form a grid near the road. On one side lies the green, irrigated farmland of the Chicama valley; on the other, the bare coastal desert begins. That sharp line between cultivated and dry land is one of the strongest features on the map.
The name is known far beyond Peru through archaeology. The Paiján culture, identified from sites in this area, refers to some of the earliest hunter-gatherers on the Pacific coast of South America, known for their distinctive stone projectile points. The town itself is a modest farming centre, especially for sugar cane.
A Paiján map poster puts that setting into a simple frame: a rectilinear town grid, a long highway line, field boundaries and open desert. It is a map with few flourishes, which makes the contrast between green and dry land the main event.
The coastal highway passes close to the town and runs through the map as a strong, near-straight line connecting Paiján to Trujillo and the north.
The centre follows a regular Spanish-colonial style block pattern, a tidy rectangle of streets that stands out clearly against the countryside.
Irrigated fields of the Chicama valley meet the dry coastal desert near the town, giving the map a clear boundary between two landscapes.

Koteā ko Paiján
Paiján appeals to people from the Chicama valley and to anyone interested in the archaeology of early South America. The map is plain, precise and immediately recognisable to those who know the road north of Trujillo.
Add a surname, a year or the coordinates of a site in the title lines. Sand is a natural choice for the desert coast, but Classic, Noir, Paper and Blueprint all hold the grid well.
