Reef and harbour pass
A continuous line of reef runs offshore, broken by the pass that ships use to enter the harbour. It gives the map a second, outer coastline beyond the shore.

Te mapa
Papeete stretches along the northwest coast of Tahiti, the largest island of French Polynesia. From above, its streets hug a narrow coastal plain, because the land rises quickly into steep ridges and deep valleys cut by streams. The town centre is dense along the harbour. Further out, it thins into long, finger-like neighbourhoods that reach up the valley floors.
The barrier reef shelters the harbour, and a pass through the reef leads to the open sea. The port island of Motu Uta sits in the middle of the basin, linked to the shore. West of the city, the runway of Faa'a International Airport runs along the coast. It is partly built out onto the reef flat and forms a long straight mark on the map.
Papeete is the administrative and commercial centre of French Polynesia and the arrival point for most visitors to the islands. A waterfront boulevard and a large covered market sit at its heart. A Papeete map poster captures the meeting of coral reef, harbour and mountain in a simple black and white drawing, with the island's interior left open and quiet.
A continuous line of reef runs offshore, broken by the pass that ships use to enter the harbour. It gives the map a second, outer coastline beyond the shore.
The port island in the middle of the harbour, connected to the mainland and extended with quays and container yards. It forms a distinctive angular shape in the basin.
Residential streets follow narrow valleys up from the coast. They form long branches of roads separated by empty ridges, a pattern typical of Tahiti's mountainous terrain.

Koteā ko Papeete
If you have lived in Tahiti, sailed into Papeete or begun a Polynesian journey there, this map is a gentle reminder of the island. The reef line and the branching valleys create an organic pattern that feels calm rather than busy on the wall.
