Te mapa
Penugonda is a town in the West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, on the fertile delta formed by the Godavari River as it approaches the Bay of Bengal. The land here is almost completely flat and intensively farmed, and the map is shaped as much by water as by roads.
A network of irrigation canals, built to distribute the river's water across the delta, runs through the countryside, with roads often following their banks. The town's streets gather around a central core, surrounded by paddy fields and coconut groves that divide the land into long, narrow plots. The straight lines of the canals give the map a distinctive, engineered look.
Penugonda holds special significance for the Arya Vysya community as the traditional birthplace of the goddess Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari, and her temple in the town draws pilgrims from across South India. A Penugonda map poster places the town within the canal-lined landscape of the delta, showing both the sacred centre and the working farmland around it.
Canals cross the flat landscape in long, straight lines, some of the most distinctive features on the map and the basis of local agriculture.
The town's core, home to the Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari temple, forms a dense cluster of streets at the heart of the composition.
Fields divided into narrow plots surround the town, their boundaries and tracks creating a fine, regular texture across the delta.
